Dr. David Fryling is Director of Choral Activities at Hofstra University, where he directs both the Hofstra Chorale and Hofstra Chamber Choir and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting and choral literature. In addition, he serves as an adjunct professor for the Hofstra School of Education, where he supervises choral music education student teachers during their field placements. He also maintains a private conducting studio, offering individualized instruction and mentorship to conductors at a variety of experience levels.

In fall 2014, David was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame as the "Educator of Note" in recognition of his years of leadership in the Long Island music education community, and in spring 2017, David was named the winner of the American Prize in Conducting in two categories: Community Chorus and College & University Chorus.

David is regularly invited to serve as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for all-state and regional honor choirs, master classes, workshops, and adjudication engagements across the country. From 2007–2013, he served as conductor and coordinator of the World Youth Honors Choir and Festival Choir & Orchestra at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. He has since been a guest artist on the conducting faculty of the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) School of Choral Studies and has served on the faculty of the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Sitka, Alaska. He has also served as music director and conductor for Hofstra Opera Theater productions of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites.

In fall 2013, David founded the eVoco Voice Collective, a nonprofit organization of singers of the highest musical, technical, and expressive abilities. Comprising both the Mixed Ensemble and the Treble Ensemble, the organization presents an annual concert series, summer sings, a recital, and awards Young Artist Scholarships to outstanding high school singers.

Before his appointment at Hofstra, David served as music director and conductor of the University of Michigan Arts Chorale and assistant conductor of the Michigan Chamber Singers, University Choir, and the internationally acclaimed Michigan Men's Glee Club. While in Ann Arbor, he was also the music director and conductor of the Michigan Youth Women's Chorus, a year-round all-state honors choir composed of select high school sopranos and altos from across Michigan.

In addition to his teaching and conducting, David is a past president of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Region and currently serves on ACDA's National Executive Committee as National Past President.
